Many patients have concerns regarding their thinning hair, how it impacts their appearance, invokes a lack of confidence and ages their otherwise youthful features. Our Laser Provider Erin DeVita, CMLSO, CST explains how PRP therapy can positively impact those frustrated with thinning hair. If you are concerned about your condition, please contact us to schedule your consultation to evaluate if this is a potential treatment option for you.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a non-surgical treatment that stimulates the growth of hair follicles in androgenic alopecia (hereditary hair thinning) in both men and women. PRP, derived from the patient’s own blood, contains many growth factors in the platelets that cause hairs follicles in the resting phase, telogen, to be pushed into the growing phase. Patients first notice that hair loss slows or stops. With subsequent treatments, new hair growth is appreciated. Each appointment is approximately 40 mins and patients can shower immediately after their appointment and then return to normal activities. Research shows that the best candidates are those who have thinning hair and start treatments early. PRP won’t work for anyone who is completely bald or has areas void of hair follicles, such as a receding hair line.
